I married Morgan on the 9th of September, 2017 (#soblessed). We didn’t go on our honeymoon trip right away, we wanted to take time to plan a meaningful trip. We finally chose to go on a roadtrip across the western USA – we actually had been dreaming of this trip for a while. My job as a photographer offers me the opportunity to take off-season breaks. After the big summer wedding season of 18, Morgan and I finally went off to our Honeymoon trip for 3 weeks.
San Francisco was our very first step. We made it there late October, but the temperature was still 80°F during the day ! I had the impression of a true summer vacation and yet it was Halloween !
On the first day, we visited the city riding bikes, wearing t-shirts and worn jeans. We refused the option to go for electric-powered bikes, and it was a mistake. The amazing San Francisco is full of hills, hence we had a very sporty day ! We started our tour from Mason Street, Tenderloin, just next to our Hotel in Taylor Street.
Then, we went towards the shore, going across Pacific Heights, High Ashbury and Golden Gate Bridge Park. We also visited Sutro Baths (with a big hill to cycle up before AND after). We then made it to the Golden Gate Bridge, which we crossed on our bikes. The bridge is massive, very art-déco and its vivid orange-red color is as mythic as stunning. We had lunch on Sausalito Island (at 4pm), and went back to San Francisco Port, by ferry, we just had time to see the sun setting behind the bridge, and the last sunbeams enlightening Alcatraz Jail.
On the second day, we went across SF using public transportation. We began our day taking the sub at Powell Station. We then went to Castro, having a brunch at Kitchen Story. Then we visited the stunning Flora Grubb Gardens, The Mission and its Street Art. We had a stop at Bob’s Donut to have to supersize donut cake. We took the Cable Car down to Pier 39, to see fisherman’s stands, sealions and neons. We then headed back to Tenderloin, going through Chinatown and its shops, full of lights, colors, spices and treasures.
